Optimal Kaos Online

      by Joshua Kennedy

Starting Out

Name your character
Pick an occupation and a race.

Then roll the dice for your attack and defense
(hp is noted in the occupation guide)

Your starting location is determined by your race - you start in your races territorial capital

You may move around the continents but skipping a determined number of turns will result - the amount is found on the map with the highways showing how many turns it takes to fully travel each segment between cities.

Attacking in Britannia

The main game play in the very beginning is attacking animals and monsters and taking their loot. To attack any unit you must first be in the region that they are found in.   Second, you must find them.   Third, after you've found the unit that you're looking for, you must kill it or it will kill you. Since you are initiating the battle you attack first; Simply roll and take that number and multiply it by your attack number, then subtract their Defense from the total you get.   Then what ever is left is what you hit that unit with (subtracted from their hit points).   When their hit point reaches 0, you have killed it.   Congratulations!   Now you get the experience points (and their loot).

To obtain wealth, you may attack animals and monsters that populate the lands of Britannia. Only certain animals and monsters can be found in certain places. The animals' places are to be located on the Bestiary page. The bounty on animals can be found on their page along with their attack defense and hit points (Shown in [ ]). You will receive all the Experience points possible, all furs, and all ribs.   Collecting on your furs will be listed at the Trading Post (Prices are listed as Pelts. 10 furs = 1 pelt). Trading Post only deals in increments of whole pelts.

Gaining levels

To gain levels, simply record all of the experience points that you collect from winning battles.   Then go to the nearest territorial city to the Training Center.   There you may pay the correct amount of experience points and gold.   The table for levels is on the occupations sheet.

Curing Your Carcass

During the game you will get hurt.   Do not loose hope, thee of little faith.   Salvation lies at the Clerics Hall.   To be healed go to ANY town and they will heal you for 1 gold.

Buying Hirelings

Hirelings are available in many cities located around the continents.   To find what you want, just look in that city and if you have enough to purchase them, you may add them to your army list and have them fight for/with you.

Armies, Creating and Moving

To create an army you must have a high reputation (must be over 50). Then you have to post a conscription notice in a non-territory city. Then men will come and join your army as regular swordsmen. Their numbers per turn is determined by your reputation: the number = your reputation times 2. To move the army out of the city it must be over 200 men. As soon as you move the men out the men will stop coming.

Reputation

Reputation is how well the people know and respect you. The more they know you the more they will be willing to serve you. To increase your reputation you may complete quests, defeat large and dangerous beasts (listed in the Bestiary) and donate to the capitals. For every 1000 donated, your rep will go up 5 points. You can get negative reputation. If you are down on your luck and you attack a poor NPC (Non-Player Character). Negative rep past 10 will get you an attack by city guards, and below 50, assassins will come after you each turn.

NPCs

Non-player characters are the city folk that meander aimlessly around. They do have possessions that you can steal but at a price. Attacking an NPC involves stealing their items and running. You will take a random object from that persons belongings. It will get you a random item and -2 reputation points.
After your rep reaches -10 the city guards will attack you. You cannot have them blocked with armies or animals. After -50 Assassins come after you and only you each turn no matter where you are.

Spells

There is a magical side to Britannia too. To be a spell-caster, pick one of those types of occupations (You must choose a color and in some cases a secondary color). Then you will receive a spellbook with your first random picked first level spells. There is Red, White, Black, Blue, and Green Magic.
They are centered on a single aspect each. Fire, Healing, Dark Magic, Sorcery, and Elemental Magic respectively. There is also the Void Magic that deals with no particular center. When you first get spells you must decrypt them at the Clerics Hall for double the casting cost. Then you only need to pay half the casting cost, else the whole cost applies.

Ship Warfare

Ship warfare is different than regular warfare. The attack is multiplied by the roll and then the total is Divided by the defending ships defense. Further, as you defeat the ship, you will get a bounty from that ship. If you get a certain roll, you will sink the ship, otherwise the ship is also yours the next time you enter any city.

Starting Cities

You way wish to build cities as you gain freedom of wealth and power. To build a city you must have a rep of over 300. To build the cities you must buy a plot of land. Then pioneers must be bought from the non territorial city that sells them. Take the pioneers to the plot of land you purchased and build your city by spending money on all the buildings you would like in your city. The building list is under the Carpenter's Shop. You get an income for most of the buildings you purchase, that will go directly to your bank account.

Purchasing land

To purchase land you go to the Real Estate office and they will give you a map of Britannia that has grid lines on it. Select a grid and they will tell you it's worth. A Full grid of 120 acres costs 100,000 gold and the smaller uneven sections will be shown by their worth in proximity to cities, water, etc. Once you purchase the land you will receive a deed from the office proclaiming you as the owner. On your land you may build houses, forts, cities, and castles. To build all of these, go to the Carpenters Shop or the Mason. You may only have two structures and one city total per 120 acres, so build wisely.
